Race For Awareness

April 22nd, 2012

On April 28th we will head out on an epic adventure from Mexicali to Cabo san Lucas in support of a good cause! My best friend and I will be running my 2011 Ford Raptor as a chase truck for his dad (Duke Wild) on his quest to drive an ‘89 Jeep Wrangler in the Norra 1000. This may not sound like a big deal, but if you knew Duke you would be very impressed that he is even considering taking on this challenge.
10 years ago Duke was out mountain biking out at Lake Hodges and when he got home he found a little tiny Deer Tick on him and thought nothing of it. He began getting very sick and went through numerous test, Dr.’s and analytics with no real solid answers of why he won’t get better. Duke is a very active person and would Surf Every Day and explores Baja weekly in search of the perfect wave! If it wasn’t for this lifestyle Duke would have for sure died. It was his strong healthy body that kept him alive through all of this. 2 Years Later he was diagnosed with Lyme Disease, a disease that attacks the brain and every other part of the body. For the last 5 years he has been battling different illnesses created by Lymes, everything from Malaria symptoms to hallucinations of his arm with no skin on it while driving through the mountains of Tecate.

Duke hasn’t driven a car for 5 years and is eager to get back in it. He has slowly started driving this last month and is training to just make it 1,000 km to Cabo. The main reason he wants to do this race is to bring awareness to Lymes Disease. It is a vicious disease that is very hard to diagnose, but with proper early treatment can be avoided. Just last month at a fundraiser luau in his property in San Felipe Duke met a guy who had Lymes and didn’t even know it. That’s why we are doing all this, to open the eyes of the public!

We are currently looking for sponsors to help make this mission a success. We are looking for product, cash support, or anything else you can offer. Some of the sponosorship benefits are as followed.
-The Jeep will be on displayed at the Off-road expo this year.
-Professional video/ photography taken during the race which will be used for a cover story on www.race-dezert.com
-A story published in Lyme Time, a publication that has subscribers through-out the United States
-Coverage on SurfRide.com’s Blog and All Social Media Sites
These are just a few of the things that are already lined up and there will be many more to come.

If you are interested in sponsoring our race team, please call on the number at the bottom of the page.
We appreciate all and any support.

Give Art a Shot

February 6th, 2012

So this is a little art project I worked on last week out in the desert. This is a concept I have been wanting to do for a few years now and I never really had a reason to do it, knowing it would be a lot of work I wanted to do it right! Feb. 4th Surf Ride had their quarterly art show “Sensory Overload”, not knowing what I wanted to put in the show, I figured this would be a perfect opportunity to try this art project out. I called my friend Josh up and told him the idea and he was in!! We now get to do the fun part, buy targets to shoot and paint to put in them. 7 gallons of paint, 19 cans of spray paint, 40+ Jars / ceramic figures, 3 high powered assault rifles, and a few hand guns later we were on our way to Ocatillo! We set up a pretty extensive backdrop to ensure no paint or glass would be left in the desert, a few cameras and started filling the containers up with paint and took aim! What happened next was pure art!
I dedicated this project to the colors that inspire what I do, RGB and CMYK the color bases for digital and print (respectively). These 7 colors make up the basis for most everything I do!
Please take a min. to sit back and watch how the art was made. The cool thing that I really liked about this art process are the holes the shrapnel and the bullets make in the canvases. I feel like it’s a conversation piece when people notice there’s hole in the art. Enjoy the movie and please feel free to leave any comments below and pass it on to a friend to enjoy. The photos are some screen shots I took of cool moments at the point of impact!
Thanks,
Josh-

KE11Y Does it again!

November 6th, 2011

I had the once in a lifetime chance to go and watch Kelly Slater win his 11th world title… Kind of… Thanks to the kindness of Rip Curl I was invited to check out the Rip Curl Pro Search San Francisco which just happened to be the last few contest heats that Kelly Slater needs to win in order to claim his 11th world title!
He did it, and I was lucky enough to be one of the thousands on the beach to see it! Ends up there was a miscalculation in the scoring and he actually won the 11th world title today. None the less, there was a lot of commotion and awards a few days ago when I was there. It was an amazing day in SF and some of the best surf they’ve had in years!
Thank you Rip Curl for putting on such an amazing event, and giving me the opportunity to experience it first hand. Congratulations to KE11Y Slater on your 11th world title!
